Endo belly (and why I don't wear jeans)

I see you. Person staring at my belly and wondering if I'm pregnant (I am not).

Unfortunately, one of the symptoms of endometriosis is a bloated stomach or "endo belly" caused by inflammation. People can assume your pregnant. I've experienced this for so long. Exercising does not help. I can’t remember the last time I wore jeans as I find them too uncomfortable or they just don't fit me properly. I do have some very comfy dungarees though!

"Endo belly" can appear with other symptoms such as:

  • Constipation

  • Trapped wind

  • Nausea

  • Diarrhoea

What can I do to relieve my symptoms?

  • If it's very severe (causing you a lot of discomfort), definitely speak to your GP.

  • Keep a tracker/journal to document your symptoms. This will also help when/if you need to speak to your GP.

  • Peppermint tea can help with the trapped wind.

  • Try to eat as much fruit and veg as you can to relive constipation. Prunes can help!

  • Drinking plenty of water will also help.

  • Experiment with cutting down on foods that could cause inflammation, such as alcohol, caffeine, dairy, gluten, processed foods and red meat.
